Things From Around the Web

One of the cutest proposals ever.

It's so nice to know that even people in the Civil War had a sense of humor.

What a powerful image.

The coolest iphone charger ever?

The birds of Angry Birds, defined. It's pretty accurate.

How disappointed are you that you woke up today?

What a fun doodle cake!

I am so excited that Jimmy Fallon's Thank You Notes has been made into a book. It's one of my favorite bits he does.

This blog answers the age old question: your house is on fire, what do you grab?

These pictures are oh so lovely.

Happy Saturday

"Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could."

From Runway to Hallway: Daryl K Resort 2011

This Daryl K Resort 2011 collection is not your typical resort collection. When I think of "resort collection" I think of bright colors, flowy maxi dresses and bathing suits-- but not here. This collection is full of black, white, and green basic pieces like mini skirts and leggings. Not the first articles of clothing that comes to mind when you hear "resort", but then I thought... well, I suppose that depends on what you consider a "resort." Resort doesn't necessarily mean a tropical beach paradise, and not everyone has bright neon and pastel colored clothing within their wardrobe, so this is actually an extremely practical collection with pieces that most people already have in their closet, so you can look fresh and stylish for vacation without having to buy a whole bunch of new pieces. I definitely got some outfit ideas out of this bunch!

I just want to give a shout out to the person that gave these pants up to the Goodwill. They have a good home now with an owner that loves them very, very much. You need not worry.

The jeans are new (to me), but here are some outfits you've seen the shirt and sandals:

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip, then and now.

President Obama (as a pirate) with his mother. Too stinkin' cute.

Ain't this the truth?

Amazing makeup from the Met Gala

I thought this was so sweet.

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there, mine especially. Thank you for everything you've done and everything you do. I don't know what I'd do without you. Love you. xo Emily

Guest Post: Five Fashion Highlights

Five Fashion Highlights in 2011

Spring is the perfect time to perk up your wardrobe with some great runway-inspired clothing and accessories. These great looks will go from the office to dinner and a night out with the girls. From head to toe, 2011 fashion trends are an eclectic mix of feminine, funky, and retro.

Ruffles

Ruffles are a charming and feminine feature of this spring's lineup. In shirts, skirts, dresses and socks, these playful pieces are loaded with girlish fun and frivolity. Wherever it appears, this childhood favorite is growing up in 2011.

Trench coats and Trench dresses

Serious, functional and sexy, the trench coat is back. With clean lines, wide lapels, and belted just so, trench coats are everywhere this season. Whether it is khaki, white or black, this new twist on an old favorite has a place in every closet.

For those who don't want to leave the trench coat at the door, this year's trench dress is the answer. Double breasted and accented with a sash or bow, this just might be your new power suit.

Flare Jeans

Fashion from the 70's is back again with flare jeans leading the way. This year's look is long and lean, featuring high wastes and wide bottoms. Topped with a cute sweater, your favorite tee or a casual cami, flare jeans are a fashionable departure from the flood of skinny jeans of the last few years. Give this fun and funky throwback a place in your summer wardrobe.

Wedge Shoes

Kick off the winter boots and pump up your look this season with wedge shoes. Tall and strappy, these aren't your mother's platforms. Found in a variety of colors, materials and styles, wedge shoes can be dressed up or down and look great with everything from jeans to minis.

Pretty Prints

Because sometimes you just want to feel pretty in a simple and understated way, feminine printed dresses are back. Florals and patterns in a rainbow of colors and styles means that there is something out there for everyone this year. Find the cut that flatters and the pattern that appeals and you will have the perfect dress for any occasion.
