Gift Ideas: Uncommon Goods

As I was sitting here, looking through the new Uncommon Goods catalog I just got in the mail today, a thought occured to me: 'I need to share these wonderful things with people!' and guess who those lucky people are? Yeah, you. I really like Uncommon Goods because they're, well, uncommon. It's the quirkiest stuff I've ever seen, and the best part is that the majority of their things are recycled in some form. So here's my top 10 picks from their site:

1. Keychain Baby Holga

If you're like me, you love your Holga camera but hate lugging it around. How perfect is it to be able to carry around a mini holga on your keys? Genius! Perfect for those times when you're out and think, 'man, I wish I would have had my holga." Problem solved.

2. Just For Kicks Mismatched Socks

"Life's too short for matching socks!" as it says in the description. I completely agree. I've started a habit of grabbing any two socks when I'm running late for work, and secretly love the ridiculousness going on under my pants that nobody knows about. Knit with recycled cotton yarn and dyed without use of harmful chemicals. Your tootsies will appreciate it.

3. Mouse Shower Cap

Confession: I totally use a showercap. No, I'm not a 75-year-old woman, and it's not those clear plastic ones from a hotel, either. It's cute and I love it for days when I don't feel like washing and blow drying my hair. I really hate blow drying my hair. Who wouldn't enjoy their shower even more with a big mouse on their head? It's in the same vein as the socks... like a little inside joke with yourself, you're the only one that knows about it, but then again... you might be the only one that finds it funny.

4. Wishing Wall Frame
This has to be the coolest idea ever. Sure, it might be more applicable at a wedding or baby shower... but who cares? Heck, I'd hang it on my wall and have every visitor use it. It comes with tiny (30% recycled paper fibers) papers that people can write wishes on and stick in the slots (kind of like a very informal version of the Wailing Wall but with wishes, not prayers) How cool would that be to go pull one of the papers out when you're having a bad day and read someone's wish for you? And since the frame is made of 100% recycled cardboard, you can write and draw all over it... truly a piece of art.

5.Vintage Box Camera Clock
Pretty self explanatory. Who wouldn't want a clock made out of an actual vintage camera?

6. Table Topics
I love the idea of Table Topics when you're having a small get-together or dinner party with friends. They're little cubes filled with random questions to start conversations. With questions like "what's the best and worst thing about being a man or a woman?" and "would you rather be the worst player on a winning team, or the best player on a losing team?" there will definitely be entertaining conversation to follow. Also comes in specific topics like: Family, girls night out, right or wrong, dinner party, and teen.

7. Freudian Slippers
Whether you're laying around the house, or on the couch of your therapy session you've got to admit, these are pretty clever. And I'm sure they'll come in handy when you have a little Freudian slip during Table Topics.

8.Reclaimed Suit Totebag

I love when things have a story behind them, even if you don't know the story... you can always make up something interesting. While you're carrying around your fabulous totebag made from a recycled suit you can think, "where was this suit worn? a job interview? a date? a wedding? a rendez-vous with a French model in St. Tropez?" hey, you never know.

9.Wooden Watch
Because it's awesome.

and lookie what we have here coming in at at number 10..

10. Recycled Grocery Bag Tote

Yeah, I know..it looks familiar! And it costs $34! This is the only time in the whole post I will say... save your money and make your own. Because it's free. but still, I feel like I'm missing out on making a fortune. haha.

So there are some of my favorite gift ideas from Uncommon Goods... Mom, are you listening?
