Music Styles: Michelle Phillips

michellephillips

When I think of a person with a cool, laid-back, 60's vibe, Michelle Phillips tops my list. With her long blonde hair and free spirit style, she exudes the stereotype of the "California girl" of the hippie heyday.

Music Style: Gwen Stefani

gwen stefani

How does one woman go through so many looks so effortlessly? She is a fashion chameleon; one day she's ska, the next day glamour and the next dressed up like a Disney character, and the kicker? She always pulls it off. Her ever-evolving style not only gives me inspiration, but makes me feel like it's okay to dress in numerous "genres" and that you don't have to stick to one style. It's okay to be inspired by reggae and Old Hollywood starlets and rocker chic and still make it your own. She is also one of the only celebrities-gone-designers that I really love and feel has real taste and talent concerning fashion. So, thank you Gwen Stefani, for being such a great style icon.

Music Style: Debbie Harry

debbieharry

One of my original personal style icons has always been Debbie Harry. She's the epitome of eclectic-badass-rocker-girl, with her signature platinum blonde hair and oozing sex appeal. She was definitely a woman in a man's world, fronting the punk/new wave band Blondie at venues like CBGBs, all while keeping her femininity and unique style. I had the pleasure of seeing Blondie for my 17th birthday, and it was amazing! Debbie Harry was as beautiful and cool and sexy and stylish as ever! It was definitely one of my favorite birthdays. I still look at her for inspiration when I want my style to be a little more "edgy" and "rocker", and I couldn't think of a better icon to take after than her!

Music Style: Grace Slick

graceslick

I've been doing Film styles the past couple Fridays, and thought I couldn't leave out all the influential and inspirational fashion icons that come from music as well. So the first person in my Music Style is Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane. I think it takes a special woman to front an all male band (Debbie Harry and Gwen Stefani, anyone?) You can't deny Grace's impeccable 60's style... those prints! that fringe! those caftans! How can you deny her being the epitome of cool? You can't. Don't try.
