Happy Saturday

"War is hell, but that's not the half of it, because war is also mystery and terror and adventure and courage and discovery and holiness and pity and despair and longing and love. War is nasty; war is fun. War is thrilling; war is drudgery. War make you a man; war makes you dead."

--Tim O'Brien, The Things They Carried*

*I first read The Things They Carried when I was a junior in high school. The minute I opened it, I couldn't put it down. It quickly became my favorite book, and still remains so. The rhetoric is fluid and the imagery is astonishing. The majority of my copy is highlighted and written all over marking passages that struck me. And although it's a work of fiction, I finished it convinced it was a memoir. I highly recommend reading it.

Red, white and blue is one of my favorite color schemes. It might be because I'm American, or of French and English descent (both of which share the same patriotic colors), but there's just something about it I love. Which is apparent from all the outfits I've made out of the 3 colors. I'm pretty excited to add another outfit to the collection for Sunday!

Say It With Firecrackers

Every time I see those pop-it firecrackers at the store, I am always reminded of this dance routine by Fred Astaire in Holiday Inn. Notice how in the beginning he rolls up his pant cuffs to expose, in true Astaire fashion, his polka dot socks that match his polka dot belt that matches his polka dot ascot. I'm always in awe of how elegant and effortless his dancing AND outfits are. A true national treasure, that Astaire was.
