Things From Around the Web

Things that tickled my fancy this week:

Loving the retro feel of Real Simple's Portrait of a Lady.

Wall-E nails! (and Eeeevuh!)

The most elaborate wedding proposal I've ever seen... complete with choreography.

This outfit is getting me so excited to start wearing my denim jacket and scarves again.

My sister sent me this hilarious scare tactic prank that made me laugh (but in all honesty, I'd probably have had the same reaction as him.)

find anything good this week?

Inked.

Here are the results for the poll about tattoos: 40% of you said you have a tattoo, 45% said you don't, and 14% don't but are planning on getting one. Here's my answer: No, I do not have a tattoo.

I've never been a tattoo person. I've never really had the desire to get one, and I've never thought too many people looked good with them. I think it might be because I just see a lot of bad ones. Go into a store on any given day and more than likely 9 out of 10 people have tattoos, and they're usually mediocre at best. But then I realized that there are some really cute and unique tattoos out there that defy the negative connotation tattoos sometimes have. I may be reevaluating the way I feel about them, well about good ones at least.

P.S. I thought about changing the title of this post because I heard people with tattoos don't like when they're called "ink" or "tats" but alas, I did not. Is this true, people with tattoos?

Things From Around the Web

Some of my favorites from around the web this week:

Mmmm, look at these cupcake nails.

This pie chart is freakishly (and hilariously) accurate about my life.

I love this light writing proposal, and not just because it has my name in it... okay, maybe I like that it has my name in it.

Dream Out Loud for Kmart

Kmart gave me the opportunity to look through the new Dream Out Loud line by Selena Gomez that came out the beginning of this month. And while I was hesitant at first, thinking I may be a bit too old to be shopping a Disney star's clothing line, after I went through the lookbook I was actually pleasantly surprised. Her line has really great pieces that can be worn by girls (and women) of various ages.

These are some of my favorite separates from the line. That tunic and those leggings with the zipper detail on the side are something I would definitely go for. I could already think of a million different outfits I'd wear with those leggings. And the best part? They're $16! Everything is so affordable, I don't think anything's over $20. I know what you're thinking: but can you make outfits?

And YES! You can! That gray shirt and floral skirt is actually a dress, and that blazer and belted cardigan... perfect!

and then the accessories. I'm already in love with that dove belt ($8!) and purple tote bag ($18).

I know that I'm guilty of automatically dismissing a celebrity clothing line, especially when the celebrity is younger than me, but after actually seeing the line and watching some videos of Selena Gomez doing interviews about it, it makes me like it, and her, even more. I like the fact that a lot of the pieces are rather simple and basic instead of drenched in decals and sparkles and other things nobody over the age of thirteen could ever pull off wearing. I could definitely see that knit blazer or zipped leggings or striped shirt being worn by someone my age and never being able to tell it was from a Selena Gomez line. And the fact that it's so affordable just turns me on to it even more. I'd suggest checking out the rest of her line on Kmart's website, especially the cuffed jeans and scarves! I definitely need to make a trip to Kmart!

What do you guys think about the line? Anything in particular that sticks out to you?

Poll Results: Night Creams

So the results are in! This weeks poll question was "do you use a night cream?" and here's what you said:

23% said yes, they use a cream. 54% said no, they don't use a cream. and 22% said they sometimes do, sometimes don't. I'm actually pretty surprised at this, I thought for sure more people would use a night cream. If you're curious about MY answer, here it is: Yes. I use a night cream.

I have really dry skin, and after taking my makeup off at night my face feels tight and dry, so I always apply a night cream (or some type of moisturizer) before bed. I've tried a few different ones and these are the top 3 that I really liked.

The first is Oil of Olay's Complete Night Fortifying Cream ($12.74). I used this a couple years ago and remember my skin looking and feeling really great in the morning. But then I got into this phase of only buying "natural" products and didn't want any chemicals on my skin so I didn't repurchase it. But now, being super strict about not using chemicals on my skin just stresses me out and I never found any natural products that really wowed me and made me feel like I couldn't live without it. So I started buying regular products again, so I might go pick this up again.

The next one I liked was Perricone MD's Skin Clear Hydrator ($55) and while it isn't technically a night cream, I would put it on after taking off my makeup at night mostly because I already used a moisturizer for day, and I didn't have a night cream. It wasn't thick like night creams, which was nice. I got Perricone's actual night cream (High potency evening repair) and wore it on my face for a couple of nights and noticed that my skin was super sensitive when putting on my makeup the next day and by the end of the day my makeup would be flaking off my face because my skin was peeling. It reminded me of how my skin was when my dermatologist prescribed me retinol to clear up my break outs. All it did was literally burn my skin off turning it bright red and making my skin peel leaving me looking like The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Then I realized that the Evening Repair has "highest levels of retinol available in over-the-counter cosmetics" which made sense to why my skin felt like it was on fire when I applied makeup. Has anyone else tried this product and have opinions about it? Needless to say, I stopped using it. It might be just how my skin reacts to retinol, and it might not be like this for everyone, but I would rather use the the Skin Clear Hydrator over the actual night cream.

The last cream is Shiseido's Bio-Performance Super Revitalizer Cream ($72). I actually only have this as a sample I got from Sephora, but a sample is all I need to know I love it. It, like the Skin Clear Hydrator, isn't technically a night cream, but that's how I've been using it. It feels so nice on my face and I wake up with super soft skin. Unfortunately, it comes with a hefty price tag. I'm sure it's worth it because it works great, so if the Oil of Olay isn't as wonderful as I remember it being, I'll definitely shell out the money for this.

Have you guys ever tried any of these products? What do you think about them? Do you have any recommendations of night creams I should try? I'd love to hear about them!

Things From Around the Web

Things I liked this week:

In mist of the whole Steve Slater incident, my sister (a former flight attendant) directed me (using two fingers, weirdly enough) to this hilarious take on in-flight safety procedures.

She also found this fantastic dramatic recreation of Slater's epic exit.

I can't get over how amazing these Van Gogh-inspired nails are.

If you thought David's cat post email thread was funny, read the email exchange to his neighbor about the party he wasn't invited to.

Did you guys find anything fantastic on the internet?

Also, a new poll is up on the left side bar. Go vote! Results (and post) for this week's poll will be up tomorrow!

I'm pretty much all about these jeans lately. And apparently I really like them with platforms, because that's all I've been wearing them with. I think it's because this is the outfit (or close to it) that I tried on with the shirt.

Dressing Room

and I immediately liked it, so of course it was the first outfit I thought to wear it with. Also, I know what you're thinking... and yes, I have a jitterbug. Because I am an 80-year-old trapped in a 23-year-old body and technology scares me. haha.

Whodathought that a $12 pair of jeans from F21 would become my new favorite? The only thing I hate is that white spot on the right leg that looks like I spilled something on myself in pictures... It's actually a tiny rip on the surface of the fabric. I promise I don't spill stuff on myself... all the time.

and this is the adorable package I got from Spotted Moth. How cute are the raffle tickets wrapped around it? I had to take a picture before I opened it and messed it all up. haha.

Today pretty much just consisted of getting my hair done and getting Starbucks. Perhaps two of my favorite things.

Dress: Target
Sandals: Forever 21

And by the way, I have a little poll going on the left side of the blog (in case you're reading this in a reader where you can't see my whole blog) I'm thinking of maybe putting one up every week and then at the end share the results and maybe do a post about the subject the question was about. We'll see how this week's goes. I'm just curious other people's opinions about things and who better to ask than you lovelies?

Today was a much needed day of retail therapy with my mom. I went a little crazy at MAC and Macy's, but it was all stuff I needed (of course, right?) Plus, I had free stuff to get-- like some VS panties and a MAC lipstick (Snob, which I'm wearing in the last picture) and a free large drink at Chik-fil-a. Also, my toe nail polish and shoe color combo was making me quite happy today. I had this color on my toes two pedicures ago, and I loved it so much I had to get it again. love love love.
