Something borrowed, Something given.

I thought this week would be perfect to borrow once again from the amazing Weardrobe Closet! This top is actually a skirt, but since today involved going to the movies to see Up! (so good!) I thought wearing it as a top with some capris would be more comfortable. I can't wait to wear it as a skirt too! The Ray Bans I'm wearing were sent to me by the lovely people at LuckyStyleSpotter, and they blow my cheap imitation wayfareres out of the water. So Thanks Weardrobe and Luckystylespotter for helping me be extra stylish today!

Shirt (actually a skirt): Weardrobe Closet
Capris: Bitten via Ebay
Wedges: Target

Also, Orchid Grey has passed the "Kreativ Award" to me (thank you!) and now I have to tell you 7 little known things about myself. I will try not to put you all to sleep, here we go!

1. My day job is a cashier at a grocery store and has been for the past 6 years.
2. When I was 16 I had a brief two month job at a tanning booth/hair salon
3. Ironically, I was diagnosed with melanoma last year, but have been cancer-free for a year!
4. I am most definitely an introvert and would rather stay home and watch movies or read than go out to a club or party.
5. I got my cosmetology license when I was 19, but had such an awful experience at the school I went to I never pursued it as a career. I still use my license to get discounts at beauty stores, so it wasn't a total loss, not like some online bachelor degree that ends up being useless because no one cares.
6. I have never been out of the country, but would love to travel extensively one day.
7. My dream job would be working in the costume department at a movie studio-- combining my two loves: movies and fashion. Hello, Edith Head!

So now you've read my fun facts, here's who I nominate:

Melissaisms
PartyLove
La Famille Roncada
Clothed Much

The Start of a Wonderful Week

My sister's visiting from Texas this week, and I decided to take the week off work (yay!) So this is the beginning of a week full of posts, if I'm not too busy gallivanting around. Today was just spent doing all the not-fun stuff (going to the post office, getting my stitches out, etc) to get it out of the way. Can't wait to see what this week has in store!

skirt: Etsy
shoes: Steve Madden

And The Winner is...

The winner for my Girl Power Giveaway is Nicole from Power Tools and Thread. Nicole, I couldn't find your email on your blog so email me with your address!

To everyone else who entered: Thank you! The women you picked are so inspirational and were wonderful to read about. I love that so many of you (including myself) have such wonderful mothers and grandmothers to look up to. I'm happy to know that so many women make such a difference in the world, and for that, and for the 34 entries I received, a donation of $50 has been made to the The Girl Effect. I hope that we, as women, can continue to inspire and encourage other women and girls to be strong, caring, and independent no matter where they live or what their situation is.

And speaking of winning giveaways, remember how I won a pair of Libertas sandals from Ecostiletto? Well I made it onto their
Ecoswagonista page! You can click on the picture to be taken to the page.

Thanks, Ecostiletto!

Code Red

I always forget about this dress because I stick it in with all the other black clothes in my closet, which in my mind I equate with winter and colder weather, so unfortunately I don't take out this dress nearly enough as I should. I felt like going for a little more classic "glamour", and because I wanted to try new hairstyles with my freshly cut hair :)

Dress: Thrifted
Shoes: Target
Belt: Target

PS. Thank you so much to everyone who has entered the giveaway so far! I love reading your comments about all the different inspiring women out there! So if you haven't entered yet, go enter!

Giveaway!

girlgiveaway

Yes, it may seem a little Spice Girl-ish to have a "girl power" giveaway, but I thought it was the only appropriate thing to call it since I wanted this giveaway to be all about celebrating being a woman and empowering other women and girls. Lately I've been thinking of how lucky I am to be a girl when I think about all the women throughout history we have to look up to: Mother Theresa, Susan B. Anthony, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Princess Diana, Amelia Earhart, Harriet Tubman, Jane Goodall, Rosa Parks, and Florence Nightingale to name a few. Women that were strong, caring, determinded, and passionate... who changed the way the world preceived women, who pushed the limits of what women could do, and who changed the world, and history, for the better. Inspiring, right? So now for the free stuff! This giveaway includes:

- A journal with paper made from 100% recycled fibers and printed with nontoxic soy-based ink
- Physicians Formula Organic Wear lipgloss
- A bracelet made of recycled newspaper, handmade by women in India from Wellpaper

Here's how to enter:

--Leave a comment telling me what female inspires you! They can be famous, not famous, a friend, family member, teacher, stranger... whoever! Make sure to leave your name and email address if it isn't posted on your blog, or if you don't have a blog.

-- You can also post this giveaway on your blog or twitter, send me the link in a seperate comment and you'll be entered TWICE!

you have until SUNDAY JULY 26th at midnight to enter! A winner will be picked at random and announced on Monday!

AND! For every entry I receive, I will donate $1 to The Girl Effect. Don't know what The Girl Effect is? You can go to the website girleffect.org or watch the video below:

Pretty awesome, right? It gives me chills everytime I watch it, knowing that us girls can change the world. So stand up and feel empowered, and let's help our fellow females be the change we so desperately need! And remember what Faith Whittlesey said, "Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in high heels."

Mellow Yellow

July 15

Dress: Anthropologie
Shoes: Libertas

This is what I wore on Wednesday to get my hair done. You can't really tell from the picture, but I got my hair cut. It feels so fresh now :) I've been really slacking on the outfit posts lately, my week has been filled with work and appointments where comfort is a necessity. But I will stop complaining and start trying to post more regularly now. *crosses fingers*

Some Like It Hot

Shirt and Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Target

Last night was the monthly Classic Movie Night. This month they were showing Some Like It Hot. I never noticed how scandalous Marilyn's dresses were throughout the entire movie! Oy vey.

For those who can't find the batik dresses on the hunger site, here are the direct links to the blue dress (the one I'm wearing in the previous post) and to the black dress. So I hope this helps anyone who was having trouble finding them on the site.

And! Remember those fabulous Lauren Moffat dresses I borrowed from Weardrobe a little while ago? (Seen here and here) Well they're now on sale (as well as other fabulous dresses) on the Lauren Moffatt Website. Go check it out! They're really good prices for really beautiful clothes, and if you feel like picking something up for me as well, I wouldn't turn it away. haha juuuust kidding. :)

Batik Dresses and Peace Sandals

Peace Sandals

So sorry for the hiatus! My computer has been driving me absolute bonkers! It's taking forever to get websites to work, and even then only some pictures are showing up. It's ridiculous. but anyway! I finally decided on which Batik dress (from a couple entries ago) I wanted to get. When it came down to it, I felt like this dress was more versatile and I could probably wear it more. and I absoultely LOVE it. I also found out that it's made by Global Mamas which helps give sustainable livlihoods to women in Ghana. How great is that? and another great thing about this outfit are my NEW SANDALS ! I won them in a contest on EcoStiletto. They're Libertas and made from recycled scraps of sustainably-farmed, chrome-free, never-endangered whipsnake leather. Another 'how great is that?'. They are my new summer shoe. Thanks so much to Ecostiletto (which you should all check out-- one of my favorite websites!) and Libertas!
